need some advice about threshold on my Excalibur

shaman

New member
Just returned from a real junk filled sandy strip on the northern neck. I read the manual and feel I understand about the threshold tone reacting to a ignored signal, returning at a different tone similar to the ignored object. What I cant figure out is when the threshold disappears and returns at the same tone, or just disappears and dint come back. I was in Dis. mode at 3 with Auto Sensitivity on my 1000. I have run copy's of how some of you guys set up your machines and will try that next week at a real beach. Hope someone can fill me in on what was going on with the the threshold.

i like my threhold kinda high so i can hear all the nulls and whatever

many times if u swing by a good target and u just get kinda close to it, she will sound off with something. i like to investigate all the somethings she tells u

dig some of the nulls just to prove to yourself she is not lying tooo.

The Excalibur's auto ground track has a mind of its own. The different thresh holds are typical and nothing to worry about. The machine will still read. It took me a while to get used to it.

On mine, when I set the thresh hold it's usually to a point where it never goes away even when it changes. It can get super soft to moderate hums but it's never so loud it drowns out a target.

I am still trying to figure this out myself. It seems that you understand the threshold change; what you want to know more about is a threshold null returning to that same threshold. At the BONE show a couple of weeks ago I asked an experienced Excalibur 1000 user. He said that he always digs after hearing that event. He suggested that when the machine reaches really deep, for a good target, this is the only response you get. I haven

Thanks for the reply folks. I have one more question to ask then off to the Carolina coast next week. I hate to come across like a dummy but where I first put the 1000 to work was a real junk pile, I found burnt beer cans, pull tabs, nuts, bolts, nails, some of this stuff ain't got a name. Now drop a machine like the Excalibur in the picture and all the buzzing and hum tones run together. Well I guess the first time is the most confusing. From the manual "Small or large, deep targets may not produce a distinct target signal but rather cause only a slight change in the Threshold tone" Question-In the above manual quote will the threshold tone change without the momentary disappearing you get from rejected objects, or does the threshold tone always disappear before changing.

Contrary to popular belief, in fresh water run in auto, 1 on discrimination, volume wide open, threshold to just past audible and in disc. It may be unorthordox, but I feel like the unit is working well with these settings in the lake. I get no falsing and the unit GOBBLES UP the loot like a vaccuum cleaner.
