need recommendation on a good budget scoop for beach and shallow water.

I need to get a new long handle scoop. I don't want to spend more than a hundred bucks and would like to spend slightly less if possible. I need something for beach detecting with my Sovereign GT, and something for wading in waist deep water in freshwater lakes with an AT-Pro. I noticed KCo has some nice ones and I have been eyeballing one in particular which is curved at the handle like a walking cane. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I used a cheaper scoop yesterday in Atlantic City. I bent the handle on a wet sand dig. Now the scoop is worth about 50 cents as far as I am concerned. I also have two scoops from RTG that have served me well. thousands of digs and going strong. You did well to ask for advice on a scoop. It is just as important as the detector. You get out there digging you need good equipment that won't fail. If you are bending over on the beach you are doing something wrong.

The scoop that failed me yesterday I got off of Fleabay. A chap that was making them on his own. Cheaper than I saw them anywhere else. Oh well live and learn. Put it this way. My next scoop will be a RTG.

One tip I will give you. If you are going into the water get one at least 6" wide. The first scoop full is very important in the water.

You can't go wrong with RTG or Nuttall, they make quality scoops, I have them both. Get the best for your money and style of detecting or you will regret it. Kind of like purchasing a $1,000 rifle and placing 40.00 dollar optics on it.

A good scoop will pay for itself very quickly. Your Soveriegn will find the good stuff so don't let your machine down with a cheap scoop. JMHO HH :minelab:

Thanks for all the good advice guys.

Nothing worse than digging a good sound only to have your scoop break.........You've got a good machine so match it with a good scoop.

Pick up the rtg pro aluminum! AWESOME heavy duty aluminum scoop with 5/8 holes on the sides and 1/2 screen bottom with reinforced kick bar accross the back!

Diamond Head Long Handle. Great, durable scoop.

Skimping on a scoop is false economy, you will be let down when you most need it, one or two good finds will pay for it outright, if things are tight money wise(aren't they always) keep an eye out on the forums and ebay for a second hand one, they do turn up and would be better than buying a cheap one as it WILL break and you will end up buying twice.
In the mean time use a good garden spade for the wet sand, i do even though i have a diamondhead, it works fine, gives you more exercise due to the bending but is quicker on all other than real sloppy wet sand that is usually soft anyway and finds sink real deep.
Obviously no good for the water though

I have one like you are describing from Kco. It was about 60 bucks. It works great in the dry sand and good in the wetter stuff, but when I took it in the surf, I new it was at its limit. So, invested in a diamond head. That thing digs like backhoe. It really is nice not having to worry about breaking my scoop.

Larry - If that was the 40" shaft, I'd take it.
The scoops handle is fiberglass and could be cut to any length you want. The rubber end grip can be removed, end cut, then put back on. All ya need is a hacksaw or skill saw with fine blade.:)
You buy and I'll cut it to any length you want!

You won't be sorry with that, not had a beach yet that it couldn't cope with

I have a Diamond head Stainless Steel Scoop up for sale in the Classified Accessories section of the forum
