Need pipointer advice...

My very inexpensive pinpointer is almost dead. Lasted over 15 years. What's a good inexpensive pinpointer I can replace it with? Nothing fancy needed...

Harbor Freight's Centec pin-pointer is probably the cheapest one out there. Am truly impressed that you got 15 yrs. out of an inexpensive pin-pointer. I couldn't get 3 months out of the ones I tried including the V-4 and the Centec. Finally got a Garrett Pro-Pointer and it is now going on its 4th year and has never missed a beat.

Hard to beat the Harbor Freight's Cen-tech for under $20. My V4 lasted one hunt, last time I checked it would still come on and I was able to PP my metal desk. Got it free with my F75Ltd.

Little Wizard II was my first inexpensive pinpointer. Got it 8 years ago. It still works. Run it flat or turn it on edge. Gets about 1-1/2 to 2 inches on a coin. When depth drops down to around 1/2 to 3/4 inch or so, replace the battery.

I'd still be using it but I like to be totally silent now and the Uniprobe, pistol probe lets me do that and still retain the probe depth I like to have.

My bad, gave the Centec to my brother after a few months. Believe he may still have it, but he doesn't metal detect anymore.

Someone posted about a Zircon Stud finder M40 a week or two ago. I read up on it and it "looks" to be as good as my Garret propointer was. So for $27 I ordered one . It should be here today and I'm itchin to find out if it's any good. If it is I will buy another one for a backup and for the occasional person I loan one of my other Detectors to. I will report back! Mike

It appears that my pinpointer has come back to life. It's the original Tiny-tec. I've dropped it so many times and it still works. Amazing.

The Garrett ProPointer is the only way to go. I had the Centech cheap job and it can't hold a candle to the ProPointer. Having a good pinpointer makes hunting so much more enjoyable. I won't hunt without my ProPointer now.

My Zircon m40 did arrive yesterday. I had a little time to play with it indoors last evening. It has all the features of the Garret Pro Pointer. It will pick up coins at 2 inches and steel or iron about twice that depth. So far I'm impressed with it ! I have yet to try it in the real world, maybe this weekend but we still have 2 inches of snow with warming temps. We will see !

Does the M40 have a probe point on it ????

Yes it has a pinpoint end on it and it does sizing like the Garret . Sizing just refines your search to the smallest possible area.

I'm still using my V4 since 2005! :yikes:

I was actually thinking of getting the new Garrett propointer but then thought to myself...if still working for me no reason to change, I'll use the money to get a 6" DD HF coil for my X-terra 70:super:

I still have my V4 (2005).. although it's been modded to reduce size and now is now watertight it has outlasted my Vibra-Probe, two Bullseye's and a HF..
