Need opions on I.D. Edge and Excell please.

I recently purchased a new I.D. Edge at a great price to go with my 1270. I hope to use the 1270 mostly for relics, and the Edge for old home sites and parks. Here is my question, I found a real deal in and Excel with Sunray probe. Havent' received it yet, but want opions on how much difference there is between the Edge and the Excel. I have less invested in the Excel, and it also has the probe. Will the Excel do everything the Edge will, and does it have similar depth. I really don't plan on keeping both at this point. Any opinions or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

As I also recently got a new Edge and am enjoying it (found 6 wheats, a token, and a wedding band with it the first trip out
I went back and read all the Edge threads looking for tips, and of course the Excel/Edge question came up a bunch. General consensus is that their very similar, some feel the Edge is deeper, yet others feel the Excel is deeper. Some feel the Excel is slightly better in iron then the Edge, yet others disagree. Of course you loose notching, as well as factory preset (cust disc) programs for jewelery, old coins, and new coins. BUT you gain a probe, which adds weight, but it's a great aid. You do loose the option the great 5.75" and 10.5" coils. The Excel only has the stock 8", which is a great all in one coil (used it a lot on my C$) but you never know when those coils will come in handy.

Guess it all comes down to what do you want to spend, and what trade-offs are you OK with?

the excel only has one coil option and it does handle iron well but the edge with the 5.75 coil is in a different league in trash it will see what the excel wont period.
The edge is a deep detector in the ground but the Edge is deeper coil for coil and way deeper when you jump up to the excellent 10.5. Edge also has better audio compared to the excel gives more of nuances to the targets .

Now I'm not knocking the Excel its a great I'd' detector but when theres a choice why go backwards especially when you already have the Edge. best bet would of been to take the cash you spent on the excel and got a couple of coils and a probe if you think you need a probe.

I cant stress enough the depth you will see with the Edge if you give it some time in the field. It runs so smooth and stable you sometimes question its abilities but I promise you its a very deep detector and can hunt the trash with the best of the best.

On the super deep targets is the target I'D' dead on? no but it is close and the audio is superb.it never will go negative on the i'd' if its a good target cant say that about the x-terra which is a nice machine also but it does sometimes drop non ferrous isolated deep targets negative the edge will not do this.

I'll tell you this also the newer machines havent shown me anything the Edge cant already do and do it better especially depth in bad ground when you have the right assortment of coils.

Just my opinion prospector your results may be different from mine

Good hunting

heres my opion on the edge ...IT'S a GREAT DETECTOR very good at finding small gold with the stock coil i have found earrring studs and backs in the sand at 2 to 3 inchs and that a small
peice of metal, using the cp program with disc set at +2 sen set at 6 is what i run most of the time, and it hits it hard definely a target hit,try it you'll like it...
