Need Open-Minded Unbiased Information

I am looking at buying a new detector for coins and jewerly to use at local parks and fresh water beaches. I would also like to use it around old home sites. I am thinking of buying an X-Terra 30 with the 6" coil. I see where you can get a Fisher Coinstrike new for $550. I think it has been discontinued. You can also get a smaller coil for it. Can anyone tell me how these two compare as for depth and ease of use including target I.D.? It would be helpful if someone could give me average depth comparisons on a penny, nickel, dime and quarter. I know depth can be affected by ground conditions. I am just talking about average conditions. If you have not used both, please give my your opinion on the one you have used and the type of depth you have got with it. Thanks in advance for any info.

I had a 30 and was a really good detector. Depth was great with proper ID. The 50 is a little more versatile having adjustable ground balance and noise cancel. In moderate soil and your fresh water beaches the 30 will do great! Plus it's cheaper than the Fisher!

I am open minded. Otherwise I wouldn't have owned as many detectors as I have owned. But having Field Tested the X-Terras, I won't say I am not biased. After using the X-Terra for the past 2-years, they've earned my respect and any bias that shows through! And I won't apologize for either.
Over the years, I've owned 3 CoinStrikes and currently have all three X-Terra models. Both the C$ and the X-Terra are good detectors. However, there are quite a few differences. I won't go through all of them and concentrate on those you inquired about. As you said, the C$ is manufacturer discontinued. That means the tech support is being offered by a company that never manufactured them. The X-Terra utilizes newer technology, with the ability to change operating frequencies by simply changing the coils. And, the tech support is provided by the same company that manufactures them. Minelab. The TID numbers on the screen of the X-Terra are larger and easier to read. The programmable audio tones of the X-Terra make "hunting by sound" much easier. The X-Terra offers more coil options than the CoinStrike. The X-Terra is lighter weight and easier to swing for long periods of time. My X-Terras will detect coins about 10% - 15% deeper than the C$, in the places I hunt. With my C$, I dug lots of nails and (basically) anything round and metal at pretty impressive depths. On the other hand, I can't say how deep the X-Terra will detect nails or those round metalic trashy targets. Since getting the X-Terras, I seldom dig them. I'd rather spend my time digging coins and jewelry. And for that reason, I no longer use the C$. JMHO HH Randy

Great information. I am leaning to the X-30 for ease of use and price. Thinking of putting the 6" coil on and leaving it for the most part.

And even though each coil choice varies in size they all run on the same frequency, 7.5kHz. Just by stepping up to the XT-50 your choices of coils goes from 3 to 7 and you have the choice of two frequencies instead of one. Only the XT-70 will give you all three frequency options and the use of all coils. If your on a tight budget the XT-30 with the one frequency will find the coins your seeking, however if you can stretch your funds I would go for the XT-50 just to give yourself that extra bit of play and adaptability for future decision making.
Cheers!

I have used them both and IMHO the X-Terra line is much easier to use than the CZ. Look at all the X-Terras and pick the one that has the features you like. The 30 is easy to use but is not as versatile as the 50 and 70.
