Need MXT coil advice

Before I go and spend 250 bucks on either a 14 or 18 inch Kellyco Xcelerator elliptical search coil for my MXT , just wanted to find out if anybody else had gone this route and what your expereince was?
I would be looking to go lots deeper on 1/4 ounce and larger gold nuggets in lite mineralization but deep overburden. Can I get 18 inch to 2 feet deep using the 18 inch version of this coil? I have an Infinium but can't figger it out altho am told electrical interference from Fermai National Accelerator Lab may be causing some of my problems. It is about 5 miles north of where I live. I can't seem to get much better depth than about a foot, on say a 5 ounce lead/galena nugget or a silver dollar, using the 12 x14 mono coil ,air test.
I prefer to use my Tesoro LST but am hearing the large 10 x 12 coil goes no deeper than the stock coil? Is this true? My LST seems to run circles around the Infinium and is tons easier to use but I need more depth? Wonder if the Fisher F75 might be an option to consider ?
Thanks-

Spoke with Gerry McMullen today and he said the shooter was best for nugget shooting.

That's his take. Thought I would pass it on.

Tom:

The standard MXT coil, while good for coin shooting in the park or schools is not a good coil at all in many nugget shooting situations, and I do not recommend it.

You asked: "Can I get 18 inches to 2 feet deep using the 18 inch version of this coil?" If you have really gigantic nuggets, but on a quarter ouncer in most mineralzed soils and gravels that are found in gold districts, I'd say no way. If you have a five ounce gold nugget, I'd say probably. Galena is not the same.

Far better for nugget shooting are the 4x6 nugget shooter (already mentioned) and the oval 9x6 DD (same general design as the standard coil on the GMT). The 9x6 gets a bit more depth. If you are going to hunt gold nuggets, you really want something other than the stock 9.5 inch round coil.

For a whole lot of information about nugget shooting and using the MXT in general, check out my MXT website at:

I also have a whole lot of general gold prospecting information on the same website at:

Hope you enjoy these pages and find them useful.
