Great lookin' bling, guys!
Great advice, too!
Hey, BLRRLB, don't get discouraged if you don't find anything good every hunt. My attitude is to simply enjoy the time that I have metal detecting, getting some fresh air and sunshine and gettin' my blood flowin'. Whenever I do make a good find, then I am pleasantly surprised after having dug countless trash targets.
Seeing John's great finds as well as others, really motivates me to get out and do some swingin'. I'm a disabled veteran and can't move like I used to, but detecting is a wonderful hobby that allows me to get out and about movin' at my own pace. My wife(nurse)is always with me. In fact, she swings too and does better than me.
Super advice given all around. May I add that you will do well to check tot lots(playgrounds), sports fields as mentioned. Sidelines tend to be trashy, so you might want to check inside the sportsfield, around the goalposts and the penalty shot line. As far as baseball fields go, the outfield is a great place to search because players lose rings sometimes when they remove their gloves. Grassy areas behind the backboard at basketball courts are good place to check also. Sometimes rings and bracelets come off while a player is making a shot and get lost in the grass behind the backboard.
Check about ten feet or so, out from merry-go-rounds, in a big circle around it because rings and such go flying off as adults are pushing the merry-go-round. Also, the line a couple feet behind swing sets, where people push their kids on the swing. Check at the end bottom of slides where a momma would catch the kid comin' down the slide.
Check volley ball courts, too. Usually the best places at volley ball courts to check is where the ball gets served and also near the net where the ball gets spiked. Check all around the volley ball court though and the grassy areas around them.
Don't get discouraged if you don't get as many rings as John. He's been at this for twenty years. He truly is an inspiration, though. Heck, I might only find a handfull of keeper rings in a year and this past year my health hasn't been all that great, but I'll make my come back!
Best of luck to ya!
