Still no gold/silver jewelry with my GTP 1350 :( i need pics to keep me motivated!!!!! also what you using? where you having the most luck?

I find that schools and soccer fields are a good place. I hunt along the side lines or near the benches where the teams sit...people lose all sorts of stuff while sitting and watching the games! The three sapphire rings pictured on my avatar were all found in 2011 with the ACE350 hunting those areas!

Sports fields are generally good, but speed getting targets out of the ground is paramount! Use a screwdriver + Pro Pointer to get your targets out of the ground quickly. Dig all targets in sports fields. Jewellery can read as junk targets. Getting lots of jewelry requires a lot of work, but the rewards are out there. Keep at it.....:detecting:

Some more 2011 finds from local parks/playgrounds/sports fields... Definitely get yourself a pro pointer! It is essential and will save you time recovering your future treasures!

Here's another couple photo's of another Edmontonians shiney things....

Great lookin' bling, guys!:clapping: Great advice, too!
Hey, BLRRLB, don't get discouraged if you don't find anything good every hunt. My attitude is to simply enjoy the time that I have metal detecting, getting some fresh air and sunshine and gettin' my blood flowin'. Whenever I do make a good find, then I am pleasantly surprised after having dug countless trash targets.
Seeing John's great finds as well as others, really motivates me to get out and do some swingin'. I'm a disabled veteran and can't move like I used to, but detecting is a wonderful hobby that allows me to get out and about movin' at my own pace. My wife(nurse)is always with me. In fact, she swings too and does better than me.:twodetecting:
Super advice given all around. May I add that you will do well to check tot lots(playgrounds), sports fields as mentioned. Sidelines tend to be trashy, so you might want to check inside the sportsfield, around the goalposts and the penalty shot line. As far as baseball fields go, the outfield is a great place to search because players lose rings sometimes when they remove their gloves. Grassy areas behind the backboard at basketball courts are good place to check also. Sometimes rings and bracelets come off while a player is making a shot and get lost in the grass behind the backboard.
Check about ten feet or so, out from merry-go-rounds, in a big circle around it because rings and such go flying off as adults are pushing the merry-go-round. Also, the line a couple feet behind swing sets, where people push their kids on the swing. Check at the end bottom of slides where a momma would catch the kid comin' down the slide.
Check volley ball courts, too. Usually the best places at volley ball courts to check is where the ball gets served and also near the net where the ball gets spiked. Check all around the volley ball court though and the grassy areas around them.
Don't get discouraged if you don't get as many rings as John. He's been at this for twenty years. He truly is an inspiration, though. Heck, I might only find a handfull of keeper rings in a year and this past year my health hasn't been all that great, but I'll make my come back!:spin:
Best of luck to ya!:biggrin:Feel free to ask for advice at anytime!:wiggle:Happy Hunting!:)

Metalhead thanks for the kind words and inspiration!!! also God bless you for your service to our country..i only wish America took better care of its Vets!! i'm not giving up, just ill after some hunts. i'm a stockcar driver so fast results is what i've known my whole life at the track..detecting another story!! travel the country and test tires for Goodyear as well as car tests for Joe Gibbs and Hendrick Motorsports. i haven't fully figured out the GTP 1350 yet..but i have A LOT of free time right now!!!

best of health to you,
Brandon

When I'm detecting and have that low hum in my headphones, the world goes away. If I find something good, it's a plus. The relaxation I get may be one of the best treasures I've found.

John

You have a good machine to find it with, the 1350 has a great review, I to block the worlds trouble out and just have fun, it all boils down to is you and the machine, keep it swinging never give up cause the gold will come!

The gold will show ANYWHERE on the screen. I try to listen for "coin-sized" sounds with my Ace, as the small pieces of foil give a short, quick signal. ANYTHING that gives a respectable signal gets dug in certain places-which goes back to location. In tot lots, the a/m mode is awesome and some earrings will give the iron "boop" sound, especially the teeny ones. The sniper coil can find jewelry around playground equipment, fences. It will triple your finds in some areas. The Relics mode is the most awesome mode if you have to get rid of the iron. It is basically at iron-nail reject. Finally, in the Custom mode, I duplicate the Coins mode setting, but I add the foil notch to be accepted so that when I do get in a tab-infested area, I will at least have a chance to find the 10k rings. Hope this helps.

@JackDev - When i try and detect around bleachers and such my detector always goes for the bleacher itself, is there a way to avoid that?

Like John said, a sniper coil would work well. Otherwise I just have to turn the sensitivity down and that works...don't do a lot of bleacher hunting though because I seem to always hit my head!

Lol i'm a small guy so I don't really worry about hitting my head. Thanks for the idea, maybe i'll try and turn down the sensitivty and go around bleachers that way.

Thanks for the advice,
-siz
