Been reading beep and dig posts for weeks and weeks and watching the "informative" videos on utube. Been a meter/vdi guy since I started detecting yrs ago, except for one 3 month gig with a vacquero. Never got the confidence in it, so I parted with it. My interest in Tesoro is back again ( light weight---- lifetime warranty ).
Outlaw or Vacquero? I want depth. Seems both have the same basic knobs. Other than the "v" having frequency shift and different operating kHz, I'm thinking they would be equal in depth. Can they both be super tuned. I was pretty impressed with scannerguys video on the "V". Not too much info on Outlaw as far as depth. Not interested in the Tejon. I've seen the Mojave but don't think I would be content with its depth capabilities and lack of ground control. Help me out----------Outlaw or "V" ?

Well you're gonna get many opinions, but to me, the outlaw is more of a deep relic Hunter and the outlaw is more of a coin and jewelry hunter.
They both have positives but aren't the same.
The vaq punches deep and has ed180 so at minimum it will accept more, but on the other hand the outlaw is ed120. Because it's ed120 it rejects small iron but the positive is the spectrum of what is allowed is spread out. This allows for the top end to be more spread out and you can disc out dimes but still accept quarters and silvers or disc out dimes and quarters and dimes but still hit on silver.
With the vaq in this respect all will ring in at max.
So like I said different. I haven't tried to supertune the outlaw but I know you can with the vaq but doing so renders the all metal and pinpoint useless.

The vaquero will be less stable in iron and trash than the outlaw.

So like I said they are different machines. Positives on both.

outlaw has so many more concentric coil choices its a no brainer for me also has the CSC so for me Tesoro are pushing in the 5 pin direction and that's for me where I will head also no use swimming against the tide you might get fit but it can be very frustrating, the 4 pin is a nice detector but has a lot less coil options.

but toss a coin if you cant decide :buds:

Actually, the Vaq used to be advertised as 180ED for years but they eventually changed that.
It isn't 120 ED either as the website now states after they made the change.
According to Monte and many others, (and myself), it actually comes in somewhere in the area of about 160-165ED...always did.

The Tejon, Compadre had the new Mojave are their current 180ED offerings, the rest of the lineup is 120ED and the Vaq is in a class by itself.

The Epsilon (5 pin) Tesoros have always been more pleasant machines to use for me. Easier to use in iron, and run quieter in that situation than the Vaquero. Plus the slightly lower frequency is rumored to be hotter on coins. And if your soil is highly mineralized, you may not find a Vaq/Tejon/Cibola any deeper than the 5 pin machines.

An Outlaw will do about anything you ever needed.

But if you are just hunting coins, get a DeLeon. It's deeper than the Vaquero or Outlaw in my bad soil, even with it's preset GB.

I agree as I Always looked at Tesoro as a "functional depth" machine- just better than average.

I'll take the Tesoro Lobo Super Traq over all others under any situation-except underwater like the shark/stingray-John

Too bad no groundtrac in discriminate, as this was once on my wish list!

In both air tests and actual use, my Vaquero is deeper than my Outlaw. I switch back and forth and it's pretty obvious. It's a matter of about two inches. With both having a 5.75" concentric on them and ground balanced to the same spot, it's about 7" with the Outlaw and 9" with Vaquero on a dime. Depth isn't everything though (despite whatever she says), and Outlaw is nicer to use in trash. Outlaw also feels smoother on target response. You'd have to use one right after the other to see what I mean. That said, it's neither of those that I'll grab first... My Bandido II μMAX is the favorite, though it doesn't get quite the depth of either V or O. Target response is clean and smooth though, as if it just wants to find the good targets; hard to explain, but it's a machine you (I) can really get comfortable with. Mojave is another one that's really good that way and also has decent depth...a really nice machine to use for being so simple.

Isn't the Eldorado µMax 180? Pretty sure it is, HH Charlie

It is, and it's another Tesoro I like.
Works great in tot-lots with a small coil and disc set really low. It'll see staples and bb's several inches down (so will also see tiny gold).
