Need Information for San Diego Trip

I am going on a last minute San Diego trip this coming Friday. Specifically to Imperial Beach. I don't own a scoop being that I live in Arizona and would like to purchase a scoop while I am there to do some beach hunting. Does anyone know of a shop down there I can pick up a scoop.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Jimmy,
Try Columbia Metal Detectors in Escondido. Escondido is about 15 minutes north of San Diego off Interstate 15. I know Frank has several types of sand scoops.

Back in the early 1980's there was a wonderful MD shop in Old Town, San Diego. I remember some of the fabulous finds that were on display. One particular cross found in a leather "bag" was something the likes of I had never seen. I believe one of the detector magazines or manufacturers had a large article on the cross. And the rings...WOW. I bought my first water detector in San Diego, an 500XL I was hooked. But I have not been to San Diego since 1985.

I had a few friends that detected the beaches of San Diego. then in the late 1980's the town put and end to detecting on town beaches. I do not know if the regulations have changed over the past 30+ years. I do know that two of my friends sold their detectors because of the (then) new regulations.
Just check before you start detecting.
Try e-mailing a San Diego club. They should have more up-to-date info than I do.

Some beaches in San Diego area does not allow metal detecting by public. Most of such beaches do display board and the public is required to adhere by them. The clubs for best metal detecting in San Diego beaches do obey these regulations, most of the times!

There are utterly no beaches you *can't* detect in CA. The rare exception (and I question if it is even enforced) is federal beaches. But very few beaches along our coast are federal, thank goodness. To my knowledge no one cares at all city, state, and county beaches here. And best to keep-it-that-way. Afterall, you're looking for the ring your wife lost, if any nosy-parkers butt-in. In my 35 yrs. of hunting beaches of all/any designation here, I've never heard so much as "boo" from anyone.

Saw the post by WaterWalker. I am not aware of any restrictions to MD on any the beaches in San Diego County, including the City of San Diego. Some beaches do have restrictions on hours the beach is open to the public, but they are rarely enforced depending on the behavior. I've been contacted by various PD's while detecting in the middle of the night. Once the officer figures out you are not a felon they leave you alone. If you go during the early morning hours 3am-6am keep an eye out for boats coming ashore. We do have a problem with smugglers dropping off drugs and/or people.

Since you're going to Imperial Beach there are some great beaches down there. Silver Strand (State Beach) and Coronado Beach are generally packed which equals bling. You gotta pay for parking at the state beach but if you're lucky you should be be able recoup the fee with coins.
