Bob,

I've my 250 for about a month and have spent about 30 hours beach hunting. I think you will benefit by first running in all-metal mode so you become familiar with the different signals. You might hear a lot of iron signals from minerals in the sand, these will be a dull tone. Depending on the beach, you might wan to use the custom mode to eliminate iron signals at the left end of the range. I get a lot of false signals from iron in the wet sand. You can experiment with the sensitivity in wet sand, but eliminating the iron notches seems to take care of most of these dull tones. I've been told that the 250 isn't the best machine for wet sand or shallow salt water, though I have found some coins pretty deep in this zone. Good luck. - Jim

Every beach is different. I lived outside Daytona Beach before moving to WV. Dry sand is your best bet for MDing. I have found lots of goodies. Go to where the crowds are. It is off season, things might be a little slow. Have fun!!

Salt water tips on Daytona Beach for the Ace:

sensitivity..4-3 in wet sand
use all metal mode
PP is very vague, detune pp works good
Fast moving water makes it false..sen. 1...no good cure
swing level
You can hear and learn a false hit from a good hit
YOU CAN notch out below penny and eliminate most falsing and all gold
Pennies 4" and quarters at 6" in wet sand
Stay in the dry sand and you can beat them all(well, it seems like it)

Summer treasure comes from tourist. Winter treasure comes from the sea.

Bob, what these folks are telling you is very good advise. But if could get up with someone who has metal detected for a time, he could you show you. The Ace 250 is a very good and easy detector to understand.[I have one.]

Thanks for the insight Jim and John. I haven't had much chance to beach hunt yet, but will be able to get a couple of weeks worth in 2 weeks. The Ace will have some company in the form of my other 2 detectors though.
Mick Evans.

I live in NE and have used the 250 quite a lot since I received it. When I am at the beach I use the coins or jewelry settings and find lots of stuff, sens is set low since the machine is very sensitive and will go very deep. Use good headphones. Also I recently got the sniper coil and it is magnificent. When you use it you will get trash, trash good find, then narrow it down, when you hear the signal it is always underneath. I have found coins laying beneath pull tabs and close to playground equipment. Good luck.
