Need info on an old quarter.

Hi guys,

Not an XT70 find but there seems to be a few knowledgable types here.

Recently found a bunch of keys in the water with the Excal and on the key ring was an American quarter.
Was'nt to excited about it so gave the coin to my niece. At 12 years old she loves getting all my foreign coins.
Anyway she just rang me to say that the date is 1772, has a guy with curly hair on one side and a guy playing the drums on the other.

Anyone care to shed some light on this coin?

Cheers.

Lou.

Lou,
That guy could be George Washington the colonies Commanding General and first President of the United States. The date 1772 is in the time of the American Revolution and it could be a reproduction of an original coin. I know there are a number of sites that can help with coin identification some of which have been posted somewhere on this forum.

Any chance you could post a picture of both sides of the coin?

MOH

That guy with curly hair would be George Washington!

Actually, she might have said 1776.

No go on the photos, dont have a digital camera yet and am too computer illiterate to work out how to upload, or is it download photos. Have had it explained before but the old brain just seizes up shortly after they say " its easy..."

Will try to get a hold of the coin and check it out properly.

Either way, probably of little value cause as I said before, it was on a keyring. That means its got a hole in it!

Still, it would be a neat find if it is the real thing!

Cheers.

Lou.

Sounds like it might be a bicentennial Quarter. I believe they were issued in 1996 in US.

Celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the United States. Approximately 810 million were made in Philadelphia and 860 million in Denver.
