hello I would like to make new digger design, but need answer what type of diggers in USA parks people can use. I know from posts in some places shovels forbid ed and people use small like minelab hand held knife -digger. my question is what is the border line between small shovel and one hand held digger? it should be hand held operating? or size? not bigger like 10 inch, or something else? thank you for all answers Stasys

Foiled again tab hunter is so right on Georgia! I almost lost a detector that was loaned to a friend that did not know anybetter. it was a cheap turn on and go, and he said he was just swinging away and people were looking at him funny. he had never did this before, so he felt like he was some kind of a geek, and put it up. he was in a state park, and did not know anybetter. i could have told him, but did not know he was going to do it. he did not find anything, so it ended well. the last person that done that in this place got a grand fine and lost a unit. they do not play. go to any state parks site on web, through the individual state site, and they should have rules posted. also beware of weapons thing. is the digging tool a knife or a digging tool? i work for lawyers, and wording counts. the digging tool CUTS a plug. there fore it is a cutting instrument and can be considered a weapon maybe? local knife ordinaces too are scary. i guess we could train our dog to dig the targets, but would have to have on leash, rabies tags, and pooper scooper handy. then there is the interference with govt property law in Georgia. that is destroying property that belongs to the local govt, hence, cutting the grass plugs or digging a hole. Federal law does not play at all. costly

Here in Washington state we can hunt some state parks but in limited areas . right now we are working on getting more areas opened to hunt due to cut backs they are reducing everything and most parks will be on there own so letting us clean out the trash and occasionally goodie would benefit them.

I would go to the info desk as the park administrator usually sets down rules if indeed they do allow detecting...same goes for city, county etc. parks. As far as Federal Parks forget about them lest you lose your detector, vehicle and face a stiff fine...Shovels and the like are a no-no for sure and are to be used in those way out areas such as cellar holes, private farms etc..
