This was found in one of the spots a couple of buddies and I have been hunting. It measures .61" in diameter. and is made of either brass or copper. And they have been found in bigger diameters too. This area dates back to the Revolution. Any ideas on what it may have been used for??? Any help would be appreciated.

I've had people tell me they were using like grape shot but I have no proof of this, so I believe that is only speculation. Iron and lead were much cheaper to manufacture I would presume. I'll ask some Rev War collectors. Good hunting, David @ Dixie

Here is a response I got on it...
"I have found these in various sizes at a blackpowder mill from civil war period. They were cast in a gang mold with sizes from a small pea to nearly golf ball size. Sometimes the smallest 4 or 5 sizes are left connected. They are usually smoothed by the tumbling in the rotating cylinders that were used to pulverize the black powder that was produced in cakes."
Since the area we were hunting had a Black Powder mill in the vicinity, I am pretty sure that is what it was used for <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">
PS- Still have the Explorer XS??? I am looking for another Minelab <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">
