Found these in the lot behind my house....it dates back to the 1840s. Have found some cool stuff but I was wondering the age of these finds and what the US stamped on the shell means?

US is US cartridge co.

U is Union metallic cartridge co. Bought out by Remington

H is Henry bought out by Winchester

Go to ....Members(dot)shaw(dot)ca/cstein0/usrim.htm for some info

I think they are all from about mid 1860 on up.
