Need ID help on found item

My partner and I are searching for a Confederate "Boot Camp" and have pinpointed the general location although we have not yet found the camp site. Our first recovery was a harmonica reed. This past Friday we recovered two items. One appears to be a shot round ball . The other item is a small brass rivet in wood. Does any one have any idea what it could be. It was about 10" deep and the three or feet from the recovered round shot. Thanks TomB

I don't know Tom, that is strange. I would think too big for a harmonica but what else could it be? Hmm... interesting. The 3 items tell me that you are close to your goal of the campsite though. Good luck!

Tom,
Is it possible that it is a piece of leather instead of wood?
I have to agree with you.. from the photo is sure looks like wood to me too!
It definately looks like you are near the "honey hole".
Good luck,
Felix

Felix...it's definitely wood. For the life of me I can't figure why a brass rivet would be in such a thin piece of wood. Here are some better pictures...migh help. Thanks Tom B
