with Id. I have been hunting close to a union camp site and have found several bullets and two pocket knives and this thing. It is 1 11/16 long and 1 inch wide.

The carpet bag lock may be right.
The first thing that came to mind when I saw it was the part attached
to the side of a bucket where the handle attaches to.
I found one a while back, but I believe it is not quite like what you have.
