I have a excal and am having some problems. I will put the threshold to a low humm and swipe along sand, if i hit the ground with the coil it will give me a false signal. I tried then to turn down the sensativity as far as it would go, but it still makes a noise, also when i set the detector down it will beep constently. Does this sound like I may have a short in the cord and if so would i have to replace the coil with the cord

Do you take the coil cover off and clean often? May be that. I had similar issues at first, but took the cover off and marine epoxied it, now it is more stable and even easier to use. Less issues, speed of coil swing does not effect it as much and when it hits the ground, it does not false. I thought my coil had a short, so I tried this first, before I sent it in and it was not the coil been smooth sailing.
