So I have been using the MXT for a year now, I have found alot of things, but feel that I am missing alot. How exactly do you ground balance and know that you are balanced? I go to the factory settings and pump the coil 4 times. Is this enough. Also, the lock switch, do you always go to the locked position? Trigger swith, forward all the time or stay in the center. I have read teh manual and watched the video, but I cant figure it out. Thanks for the replies

Your settings do not matter. The MXT has the fastest ground tracking available. If you want to really make sure it is ground balanced. Just leave the trigger in the center position, you don't have to but you may forget and leave it there and notch out some stuff. Find a clean spot, turn it off. Turn it back on and pump the coil once or twice about 4 inches off the ground. That's it. Now you can confirm it is balanced by lifting the coil waist high, pull the trigger back and lower semi slowly to the ground. If the threshold stays the same or only goes up a little then you know you are ground balanced. This is a little overkill but if you believe you are having issues with it then this may help. The MXT balances so fast you can actually just start swinging when you turn it on. If I am in a trashy or semi trashy area I always use the method above to confirm it is balanced.

Man don't sweat the small stuff, the MXT balance itself so fast you really don't need to pump it [ unless your in high minerals soils ] like Tin Nugget said turn it on and start swinging it, it will balance its self! I get out of my truck turn it on and go. buy the time I get to where I want to detect my machine is ready . And it never has let me down. Now my GMT you have to spend five minutes getting it balanced before you can hunt. But to sum it up MXT = turn on and go !! :detecting::thumbup:

I leave mine in the middle position, The center is the primary search position.Forward is the alternate mode, such as if you want to lock out a target { pulltabs or nickles } put a nickle on the ground set your dual control to where you just pick up the nickle then push the trigger forward to lock out pulltabs, squeese and hold trigger to pinpoint.

Now thats the way I do it I hope Im doing it right!!!

What Bob says is OK if you are only hunting for coins. If you have the trigger in the forward position, but only in the coin and jewelry mode, you will notch out most of the old style tabs. You will not notch out the newer style tabs and you will be notching out many gold rings. If you set the disc to just pick up a nickel , most nickels read 18 - 20, you will again be missing gold rings and jewelry. Pay particular attention to those signals which register from +10 to +20. Probably 95% of all potential gold ring finds will register there. Most men

I agree with what Rob said 100%, he explained it much better.
