Need help with TR DISCRIMINATOR

As posted in my last post, I just got 2 new (new to me) detectors. The GTA 1000 I have completely figured out. The TR Discriminator is still a bit of a mystery. It has a 4" super sniper coil. We cant get it to read any deeper than 2"-3" no matter what we do. It is VERY good at what it does, but it has NO depth. Any suggestions appreciated.
The Garrett sales rep knew nothing about it. She said it was a top model WAAAAAY back when it was new, but she couldnt find anything on its settings or such. It looks pretty simple, but why no depth?

That machine is pretty old you would do better with the Pioneer 202 you had.

Speaking of OLD machines, theres a Garrett on Ebay thats made in the year 1967. The box is mounted sideways!
