My friend is gonna bring me his 30/30 to try out can you tell me how to set this thing up for relic hunting. I run my deus with no discrim and a fast recovery speed, how do I set the 30/30 up to mimic that? I klisten to the iron when hunting can I set the 30/30 where I can hear it? thanks ahead of time.

I'm not a relic Hunter but I hunt with an open screen most of the time.
Use Combined mode and set the tones to you're liking.
I run my Iron tones at the lowest setting (75 Hz) and can listen to the low machine gun fire for hours
with no mintal fatigue.
Select Recovery Fast and Recovery Deep.
I would probably use FE Coin or Ground Coin for the Target Seperation mode.
I'm sure some relic Hunter will chime in with some good suggestions.

thanks trying to do a crash course.thats exactly what I want it to do. I want to hear all the iron. thanks

quote (digger) Note that Coin Mode Pattern 2 has FE Line 35 rejected. Relic Mode Pattern 2 has all targets accepted (all metal). If the iron you were trying to get a solid signal on was bouncing around the FE35 line in Pattern 2 of your Relic Mode, it would be nulling out any audio tone on FE line 35 targets when using Pattern 2 in the Coin Mode.

So if you want to hear everything you have to be in relic mode or pinpoint sizing .

You may also find that adding disc is not a bad thing say 31 to 35 line disc out let's you cover more ground because your not constantly checking iron all the time . If you move your coil slower you will not miss much just give the machine time to analyze the targets go to fast and you will miss some targets that are tight with iron . sube

I have never been relic hunting, but from a few I know that do it competitively, the deus leaves the ctx in the dust. There are a million variables to that statement but I would take a hard second look at what you already have in the stable. JJ

wouldn't think the ctx would be a good relic detector unless run in pinpoint mode that's the only true AM mode.

I hunt for relics of the Civil War almost exclusively, and I have found the CTX to be an excellent relic machine. In my opinion, it will find lead, brass, and other items (ration tins, etx) just as well as the Deus. I also have luck with artillery fragments and cannister.

I set mine up in combine, with everything above Fe 32 discriminated out. I have two main patterns based upon the ground that I am hunting. In high iron, I have Fast On, Deep On, High Trash, Pinpoint Sizing, and Long response. In fields and lower trash, I have Fast Off, Deep On, Low Trash, Pinpoint Sizing, and Long response.

I have a backup that I use in very rough ground where I turn Seawater mode on. I only use this mode in high mineralization, usually livestock fields that have become saline with years of animal pee.

With Fe 32 and above discriminated out, you won't pick up small iron or nails. But big iron will still ring, stuff like cannister balls, artillery frags, hammers, horseshoes, etc.

Great information, I too am hunting a ghost railroad town from the 1855 burnt in1857 now a pasture. What you posted will help me a lot. What does brass and lead numbers look like?
Would send pic but file too big.

The FE-CO response numbers for any item depend entirely on its mass and surface area. A tiny, flat piece of lead will be completely different from a 69 cal round ball and still different from a molten splash puddle

As with any item, the ID numbers can vary based upon conditions like soil mineralization or the degree of corrosion of the item. In MY experience, these are the numbers I encounter when digging Civil War relics:

.69 minie: 12-36
.69 round: 12-35
.58 minie: 12-34
.44 Colt: 12-25
.36 round: 12-22
Coat button: 12-18
Cuff button: 12-12
Button back: 12-12

If you are lucky enough to find plates, they ring in at 04-46 and basically sound like hubcaps. Bigger brass like knapsack hooks will also ring in at the 12-35, as does clumps of camp lead. Also brass rivets. 12-35 is like the magic number for relics.

Again, very general. If you are relic hunting, DIG EVERYTHING until you develop your own mental template.

Be sure to slow down in heavy iron or trash. it is very very good there if run properly.
