Need help with my Christmas Gift . . .

My wife (who now fully supports my MDting hobby after a few "neat finds") got me this cool Digital Pocket Scale as a Christmas present . It was nice of her but I do need help. According to the Info sheet, It measures weight according to grams, ounces, dwt (pennyweight) and ozt (troy ounce). Grams and ounces I understand. Can you guys please explain and expand on pennyweight & troy ounces etc.. :nerd: Sorry but I just dont have a clue in this matter.... Thanks and Happy New Year!!! CCH.

Troy ounces and pennyweight spoken here: http://lynncoins.com/troy_ounce.htm

Yes it is my EG&A ring. Semper Fi. Thanks for the kind words. You have a great year too. I'm hoping to do some CW Relic hunting tomorrow. Keeping fingers crossed with weather.

Herei is great gold, silver and platinum calculator that you can also use to convert different scales to each other.

Quickly gold is measured on a scale called Troy. A Troy ounce does not weigh the same a the ounce you and I use for weighing ourselves. The scale that you and I use to weigh our selves is called Avoirdupois. A Troy ounce weighs a little more than a Avoirdupois once but a Troy pound weighs less than a Avoirdupois pound.

A Troy pound is made up of 12 ounces.

A Troy ounce is made up of 20 pennyweights.

A Troy pennyweight is equivalent to 24 grains.

Best place I have found to get more details is Wikipedia.

Hope this helps.

Nice scale.

That looks like a nice scale. Most of the things we find need weight in grams (31.103 grams per ounce). Great Christmas picture and happy new year.
