I was detecting at a now gone home built in 1811. I found this object almost instantly. My detector said it was silver. The area I was in is Citronelle Alabama. The last major battle of the civil war was fought not too far from this area, a few miles. There is also a large field behind the home. Sorry the pics are kinda bad, I had to take them with my cell phone. Any ideas?

It is fairly light and seems to be made partly (if not mostly) of silver. Could it possibly be a melted bullet? I know at times troops did melt down other metals if lead was not at hand. The item has defiantly been in contact with heat and morphed by it. In the last picture you can see an air pocket around top right center. It is defiantly a single object an not broken off of another. lol, I know this find isn't too interesting (at all really) but I am curious as to what it could be, thanks.

Are you sure its not a piece of melted aluminum. These will cause your detector to lie with a pretty coin beep every time.

Could be silver solder. I've found the same item a number of times. Best way is to take it to your local jeweler. Most of them can test it for silver.
