Need help with Discovery 2200

Help, my Discovery 2200 is actiing weird. When I first turn it on, it will work just fine, but after a while it will simply go nuts and register something every second or so (anything from the whole spectrum) even while the coil is in the air. The fix is to simply turn it off and back on, and resume sweeping. It seems to happen more often when I bump the coil against the sand or when I lay the unit down while I'm digging.

Any ideas?

Can this unit be sent to Bounty Hunter for out-of-warranty repairs?

So I guess you've heard of this issue before. Was rough tonight never knowing if the machine was on the frtiz or truely found something. Found an aluminum can 10 inches below the surface of the sand. had to turn off/on the machine too many times to count to find that can. I refused to beleive it was a false reading. Th emachine is pretty sensitive when it works. I found a piece of foil about the size of perscription pill under 4 inches of sand. I wonder if the 10" coil is worth getting.
