Need help with choosing a second water detector

M.Carnahan

New member
I am looking to buy a second water detector; I currently own an Excalibur II but lately have been having problems with it when I submerse the controls. I was considering another Excalibur but I am sort of afraid that I might run into the same problem. The other detector I have been thinking about is the CZ-21. For those of you that have used both detectors, could you let me know the one you prefer? I only hunt in salt water along the Florida gulf coast.

Thanks in advance.

You may have a leak in it somewheres, or a crack in the battery pod. You are still under warranty.........send it back pronto. Excal is one of the best machines out there. CZ is a different type of machine.......you may have a little trouble getting used to it at first and may not like it. Depending on where you detect, maybe a PI might be a good choice also.

As Bobbie said, the Excal should have no issues when submersed...it's waterproof to 200 feet.

Is it possible that your rubber gasket where the battery connector screws on is missing? Or have you only tightened it snugly? You don't want to get too crazy with it, but it should be firmly tightened. Also, a little silicone grease (just a wetting of it on each side) on the gasket is a good idea...helps get a good watertight seal. And if all that is a "no", then as Bobbie suggested, look for a crack in the batter pod, around the thread area...probably from being overtightened. And if all else fails, send it in...they will fix it.
