Need help with adding handle to water scoop

Tom Slick

Well-known member
I think I'd like to add another handle to my SunSpot scoop. I've seen a number of helper or cheater handles added about half way down the handle to help with raising and sifting out the contents but I haven't had any luck in searching for past posts on the subject. Any help, suggestions, photos would be appreciated.
thanks
Tom

For my long handled scoop I bought what is called a baton handle for a maglite torch. Google "maglite baton handle" and you should find what you need.

Works great.

I've used a "T" grip type handle for a long time now and have learned to depend on it.

Less struggle getting loaded scoop to my floating sifter saving my strength allowing me to hunt longer!!

Ay my age (71) I need all the help I can get!!

GL&HH Friend,

Thaks guys for the suggestions and the websites. I ordered one of each of the three above so I'll be able to choose the one I like the best. The other two will end up on some of my garden tools.

Tom... when you get the and try them let us know which you preferred.... give us the good, bad and ugly of your choice.

I'll be looking forward to your review. I have a " D " grip. But , that " T " grip is more of the design I was looking for. As long as it can hold up to the abuse I'd be putting it through , digging in the salt water.

Here's a picture of my assist handle that let's me carry a full bucket to the surf to drain it out.

Hi Wfere do you get that scoop , man I built my own from aluminum but its not a bit a good as that.

Do you have a link or name for me to find it. I would even import it to spain and pay duty, dam this hobby is costing a lot here in spain

This handle doesn't work good on wet wooden handles ,it slide to much.
Have you tried using a small wood screw thru the white plastic and into the wood handle? That may keep it in place. Just a thought.

I did a google search and found this "http://www.gold-scoop.com/" and they have a helper handle avalble now, but I find everything there a bit over priced and think I could make my own a lot cheaper, but their photos are a big help in that direction.

Ok guys here's my short review of the 3 different add-on handles mentioned above.
I bought the Motus "T" handle and The Motus "D" handle from Greenherontools.com. They were about $10 - $12 each. I also bought the Maglite baton handle from Armyuniverse.com. at about $22.00.
Between the Motus T & D handles, I prefer the T handle. It's lighter weight and not so bulky. junkloard3139 stated that the Motus handle would slip on the wet wooden handle so I used a small Pan Head sheet metal screw through the white plastic into the handle. Problem solved. I found the Motus handles to be slick so I scuffed it up with some course sandpaper a little just to eliminate the slick surface.
The Maglite handle is much more durable and better made than the Motus handles but I'm not sure the price difference is worth it, and it's heavier than the Motus handles. I'm leaving the Motus T handle on my SunSpot scoop which is the scoop I use 95% of the time. The Maglite baton handle will stay on my RTG scoop. The Motus D handle will probably end up on one of my yard tools.

I added another assist handle to my scoop.
My goal is to use my scoop one handed and be able to balance myself when I stand and stomp on the back of the bucket when I dig.
I added the hoop for the balancing act and I have the smaller assist handle for carrying the full bucket to the surf to drain it.
I use a rope with a golf grip slid on it for a shoulder carry.
I think that makes 4 handles including the grip on the top of the main shaft.
Do I win a prize for having the most handles on a scoop?

All you're missing now is some wheels to roll it around and maybe a trailer hitch.

ROBOCOP...you definitely win the prize for the most innovative, imaginative, specialized, and personally suited scoop i have ever seen....necessity is the mother of invention...you are proof!!!
I just ordered a new stealth 8" from (someplace) tonite...been wanting a new one for a while, the 6" Kco Ive been using(not mine) has banged me in the shin for the last time...its great in calm water but a little wave and undertow and it can get away from you...HH GL
