Need help, what new coil to get for 705

Terrible Tom

New member
My old X-Terra was stolen and I am now getting a new 705 and need some experienced help on what new coil to get. It has been about a year since I have done any detecting and would like to start again.

I live in SW Missouri and our soil is moderately hot and I usually hunt for coins and jewelry. Most of my hunting is in city parks, old homesteads and schools. I plan on doing some relic hunting in the future since SW MO has a rich Civil War history.

Below is a list of the coils I have for the 705:

9" 7.5hrz concentric
5x10" 18.75hrz DD
10.5" 7.5 hrz DD

I ordered a 705 Gold Pack so I will have two of the 5x10" 18.75khz coils and will be looking to trade one of them for a different coil. I would appreciate any assistance from the more experienced members of this forum in making a decision as to what coil would be best to add to my arsenal. I think I have the relic hunting covered with the 10.5" MF DD coil and would like to improve my chances of finding gold and silver in parks, yards and schools with the selection of a new coil. Thanks in advance to those who respond.

ETA: If additional information is needed I will try to provide it.

I see that you don't have a 6" coil. You may be able to find someone to trade your 5x10 for a 6" Minelab HF coil but I doubt you'll find someone that wants to trade you for a 6" Coiltek coil.

After having that coil for nearly a year, in my opinion the Coiltek coil is a necessity. If you need to save a few bucks then you may have a decision to make between those two coils and if you consider that you probably find more silver than gold, the Coiltek is a lot hotter with silver. But remember, the Coiltek is no slouch with gold, it's almost a no-brainer to buy the Coiltek.

I've found gold and silver with both of those coils and up until I bought the Coiltek the 6" HF Minelab was my favorite small coil. Don't get me wrong, you'll do good with the Minelab HF but I think under any soil conditions the 6" Coiltek is the way to go.

Ditto ... Coiltec Digger coil in 3kHz

I agree with mapper65 and surfchunker. You've got a good "all-around" concentric at 7.5kHz. And since you already have DD coils in both the MF and HF, I'd definitely go with the Digger coil. It is both 6-inch and LF. Great separation and excellent depth of detection. Besides that, I like the name! :detecting::minelab::coiltec:

Well guys you convinced me, I ordered a Coiltek "Digger" from Moose57 today. Thanks to all who replied.
