Need HELP!!!!!! What is it?

I live in south Louisiana and was hunting yesterday afternoon when I hit on this coin/token in an old area just north of Baton Rouge. The picture on the front is of a prospector and it reads "The Great Louisiana Gold Mine"????? It appears to be made of brass and much larger than a half dollar. On the other side has a $ sign followed by the number 100, then has a serial number. Haven't got a clue??? Any help would be appreciated.

Interesting find, I am sure someone will know. Look forward to the answer.

Just a guess. It looks like a token that is redeemable for $100 worth of gold from the Great Louisianan Gold Mine.

If the mine still exists, you might want to look them up and see if you can still cash it in. :beers:

What a great find! I love the mystery coins.... Its tough enough on a fella to loose your gold .. But to exchange it for a redeemable token and loose that !! Dang....lol. I look forward to the rest of the story.

Joedirt, sounds like you have a liking to the token.... offer Bill $100 and I'm sure he'll sell it to you. Although, $100 in gold isn't very sizable these days. HH Mike

It would only be special to me if I OWNED the gold mine. I'd want a piece of my history back. Since I don't own the mine, it's just a cool looking token.

Very cool Bill,

I cant offer any input on this beautiful token but I will be looking forward to the results and will do some looking as well.

I took this token and let several members of the club I belong to take a look at it, and still no answers. I'll keep searching! When I find out what it is I'll post the results. Amazing what's in the ground!!!!! Ain't it Great!

it is a token for the worker at the mine they did not pay in gold until after the shift it was for security reason this was done that way. Plus the workers did not have to protect gold will working in the mine

You could say I'm familiar with The Great Louisiana Gold Mine. My Dad, RD Bozeman Jr (deceased 1999) started the company in the 1980's. He would

I agree, it seems like a workers pay token. I found something similar once, but mine was only for 5 cents.
