I have recenly discoved the pre-loaded programs on my DFX-300... I usally searching for coins in low to medium trashy areas... I was useing the DP-Silver program yesterday and it was acting weird.. It would go off like it saw something then i would go back overe the spot and the metal dectector would not pick it up agian, these happen like 10 to 15 times... and i was going to ask ya'lls option on taking the pre-amp to from 2 to 3 on this program?.. can anyone help me out are give me some advise on useing this program? I live in Mississippi ='s no minlized ground... thanks guys!!

May be operator error.

Computer may need rebooting..Turn unit on to program, remove the batteries while still on and leave batteries out for a minute and then put back in.

Preset programs have low preamp gain and usually no problem to raise it more than one or so..

Gee I hope you have good batteries in it..

Easily be picking up a deep object such as soda can-pipe etc. and only catch it from certain angles.

Know a competent DFX user as couple of trips with him will shorten your learning period..

ok i can try that.. the batteries in it now read 11 when I turn the unit on so they should be good and charger... I found a 6 inch dime but thats as deep as I have found anything... im useing thee 9 inch coil that came with it

Even for oldtimer DFX has a learning period, for a rel newbie to this unit it can be long..Coil could be out of tune, but the you would have problem groundbancing..

Have a clubmember ..Whites dealer or any DFX guy to help you as it will cut down the learning period....by the way preset programs are usually weak starter programs so jack up the facets that improve depth...basically an XLT guy myself as far as my abilities but DFX is along the same line..Time to read that manual several times concentrating on each changeable facet...Again Jimmy Sierra has an excellent book out on the unit available at Whites dealers and I believe a Foster authored book will also help..

6 inches is good for one of the preset programs...probably 8-12 inches with a good program set for your area and a brisk swing helps also...

ok awesome im getting some real good tips.. i think im gonig to boost the preamp gain up 1 and the ac sensitivy up a lil aswell as the dc and see what I can do... if not i may try Larrys program what u think?

I tried that deep silver program also but in my area it was beeping like crazy. It would not shut up until I changed the program. I just think it is a HOT program to use where I was.
i live in upstate, Ny ground is nice, but I think the EMI made the dp silver program go crazy nuts.
