Need help RE: Point and shoot waterproof cameras

I have looked at all the reviews and came up with 2, one is the Canon Power Shot D10 and the Panasonic DMC-TS1S both are 12 mg and both take better pics then the other waterproff cameras, I'm leaning towards the Canon as that's all i have used in the past few years (always amazing pictures) and the customer support is great. Can anyone chime in here?

Thanks so much, Billy

I just bought the DMC-TS2- 14mg and waterproof to 33 ft. Suppose to be the best of class.....I expect it to arrive on Friday...

I really think they should stop saying waterproof and start saying water resistant for these types of cameras. I've managed to kill 5 of them in 5 years. I follow the manufacturer's instructions but they still die and the tech at the local camera store says they are sending back box loads of these cameras under warranty every year.
My advice is to get the older model with a few less bells and whistles but still a good warranty. It will cost you less and hurt the wallet less should it die just after the warranty runs out.

Cheers,

BDA:cool:

We have the first and second generation Pentax, both are still in good working condition and we have not sent them back for warranty service. One of the biggest problems is that people forget to click the waterproof lock. These are not diving cameras, they are meant to get wet under a couple of feet of water. They can take an awful beating as mine spent a couple of years in my purse daily, as I used it for work also. Canon tends to be pricey and Pentax takes just as good of a photo as Canon. I have a high end Canon and cannot tell the difference in photo quality between the both of them. Your computer will make the difference in the photo quality, especially when posting and printing.

Bobbie is correct, the Pentax does take a very nice picture and it is very good value. I should have added the caveat that nothing lasts very long here in Bermuda, the combination of high humidity and higher than normal salinity tends to corrode everything in spite of the rinsing after each dunking in the ocean. (one of my mechanical failures was due to mate popping the latch by mistake, accidents do happen)

[size=large]I am verrrrry happy with my Pentax.....I have had mine going on 4 years now and it is hanging tough....I store mine in a waterproof cellphone bag when detecting and it has given me that extra measure of protection while packing it along with me while working the beach and shallow surf....I also use a flip video that isn't waterproof....but I will be buying the optional waterproof case for it. I have the canon d10 . I would avoid the canon-------------

I have occasionally got a lens error message . I have no confidence in this camera

Thank you all for your help, I went with Pentax Optio W80 12.1 MP Digital Camera and ordered it today, I liked the Canon but it IS there first attempt at a water proof camera and It shaped like an egg (a lousy design from Canon) but not bad reviews either. The Panasonic had good reviews but so does the Pentax and like the Panasonic, it has a good hd video another selling point was the super macro plus the fact that my trusted friends on this site have yet to steer me wrong on anything I have asked advice about

Thank you all again, Billy:clapping:

I think you will be pleasantly pleased with your choice, but always make sure you keep that little water proof latch locked down. Canon is a good name but not always a good product. I had a $700 specialized printer made by Canon that was designed to crap out after so many uses, you can't imagine my anger when I found out that it could not be fixed because Canon would not supply the part to fix it!!!

Yes, the last model had a latch that you had to slide to lock , this one clicks and locks when you close it but I will still make sure to check it anyway
