HOW IS THE TESORO SAND SHARK FOR SALT WATER BEACHES AND HOW DOES IT COMPARE TO OTHER PI'S SUCH AS DETECTOR PRO, WHITES, OR GARRETT. ALSO WHICH WOULD BE A BETTER COIL 8" OR 10" ? Thanks for your help

The Sand Shark is awsome in the saltwater. I love mine. I haven't used the others, but from what I read the others (in the same price range) are all about the same and it's more of personal preference. I would recommend the 8 inch for water hunting. It will give you more depth than you want to dig anyway. The 10 inch coils tend to flip up easier in the surf. The good news about the Sans Shark is it finds everything, the bad news is it finds everything. Good luck.

The only competition to the Sand Shark, in my opinion, is the Detectorpro Pulse.

The only downside to the Detectorpro is that it drinks those two 9 volts dry after about 8 hours of use. But it is very powerful and very sensitive to small gold.

You can't go wrong with either one.

I've used the others and personally don't care for them.

Also, the Sand Shark and the Detectorpro are the only ones with an external volume control which is something you really, really want at the beach.

Love my Sand Shark too, Battery life is exceptional, i use eneloop rechargeable batteries by Sanyo in mine and can't believe the life, i put 40 hours on a set of eight and still had four beeps on the machine when i took them out.

Three things i really like about the SS is the way the box attaches to the rod, just push in on the buttons and it releases and you can reposition it front or rear. Life time warrantee, Balance is great. the depth is also great.

If the beach area that you hunt is some what clean of junk you will be ok, but there is no discrimination and even though other PI say they have some discrimination it doesn't work that well.

Personally i like to dig everything, so many times i have found chains that double beep and should be hair pins and are not. Coins on edge and two coins real close together will double beep.

The more you use this detector the more you will love it and it will become your favorite.

i've used the shark for 5 years. have all the interchangeable coils. yes, in the wash, if the wave action is heavy you will have a problem with the 10.5 flipping. but, you can buy or make & use a coil brace.
i've never had a problem with target seperation as i very rarely hit two targets at the same time. as for depth - you willl get all the depth you want & more with the 10.5 coil!
as for weight issues - when the coil is in the water the size does not really make a difference. out of the water it would make a difference.
pinpointing is no problem with the 10.5 coil.
the reason i almost exclusively use the 10.5 coil is simple - i get 25% MORE detecting area covered with it. whichever coil you choose - get a good scoop as you will surely need it.
