Too hot to dig so I thought I'd get some help on identifing a couple items. Dug this piece from a camp outside Petersburg Va last year. Its a little over 4 inches long. 2 inches is rounded then it becomes 4 sided and tapers down to about 1.8 by 1/8. Made of solid lead. Weights about 5 to 6 ounces. Thanks for looking. hh

Almost looks like the top half of a spoon or fork. Does it look like any fire damage? That's my guess and I'm sticking to it (until someone who knows better posts:cool:) HH

hey olddigger, i think a soldier was bored and carved it out, whatever it is! then he realized it was too heavy to carry and left it behind. could it be an improvised pencil? that's the only thing i can think of. but it's a neat find. hh,
