need help on excalabur head phone wires

my head phone wires broke near the pod to close to resoder . so i had to cut out the plastic sealer on the end cap so as you know there is a resister and what i think is capacitor so duz any one have a wire schematic i was unable to see where the wires went and the values of the electronics

Go to the Modification forum and search Excall headphone modification. You should find all the information you need as that mod has been done many times. Old Beechnut or Mel Parker and many more can help you if you can get hold of them. Good luck. HH :minelab:

You really don't need this circuit, as a matter of fact your headphones will be louder with out it.

Mel is the Wizard,

The few amount of excals I have worked on, I always test the main board at the small white double plug with a old set of transducers, just to make sure all works before I put the excal back together. Never noticed any major differences.

Is it the headphones, or the wire that's causing the trouble? If the wire were intermittent near the pod, splicing wouldn't do much good... I've added an ikelite connector to mine, but no longer have the little capacitor that is sealed in the original endcap. I use the GG underwater phones, and think there is a bit of difference between the tones of them and the originals, but not sure if it is the phones or lack of the cap. If you can get an alkaline pod end cap, it is super easy to install on the pod, and use the ikelite connector on the phones.

Its a High pass low stop audio filter, Its a capacitor and a resister , It lets the high frequency audio pass into the headphons with no reduction in volume while it attenuates(reduces the volume) of the lower frequency audio
What headphones were you using?

thanks guys for the help ..i now can fix my problem but i got a new excal 2 on 6/22 /11...i will keep my old one for a spare..just did not want to pay minelab 200+ $ for a simple repair thanks

I am going through this same issue with the headphone lead wires from the end cap to the board. I didn't realize this was as common as it seems to be. The search function is your friend!

I am working on mine now and did a test for volume with and without the circuit. As I suspected, Mel is right, it is louder without the band pass installed, to me anyway.
