Hello, Just a small find, I found with my Garrett Ace 250 here in Addison IL. Close to Salt Creek I think it might be from the civil war? I

It's not Civil War........

(1785) 'USA' BAR TOKEN, If it is authentic, it could be worth many thousands of $$$

This will get you started but I think your first step is to get it professionally authenticated.

It looks like a reproduction sold for $42 on Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/USA-Bar-Cent-token-Coin-Copper-25-MM-Wide-/350851968951?nma=true&si=YGJfJmGge8bf55woQg0raKmX1I4%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

IMHO, it looks like yours might be a reproduction, it is perfectly centered which was very unusual for the time. If you look at the real ones that sold at auction, they are all off center. Still a very nice find though. Congratulations :clapping:

Hello that's outstanding find if it's real nice find .cheers don

Thanks to all of you that helped me identify the coin / token any ideas to get it professionally authenticated? Coin dealer? Thank you in advance.
Ross

A reputable coin dealer will guide you in the right direction. Grading by PCGS might cost you more than it is worth if it is a reproduction.

I'm with you Larry. That's too good of condition to be from 1785. Did you run it through a tumbler to get it that clean? If it's authentic, then maybe someone was on the way to a pawn shop and lost it before they could get there. The A is under the S on the 1862 copy. That's good for you if it's the real thing.
