Need Help MXT PRO

OK. Went to the Park this morning, Set all the settings to Factory preset. Been trying to do Coin & Jewelry first to learn it.

1. Trigger in center, Trac on ground In a area that's clean, pump the search coil up & down first thing i see is -95 Hot Rock it leaves can tell its still not stable. Moved to another spot that's clean same thing.

2. reduced the gain same thing, Live in Ohio. Park is about 16" top soil then clay then gravel.

3. when i start to hunt VDI start's to read -40 iron so on is it do this didn't think it would read the lower level in the - in that setting.

4. Have the 950 e coil on it. Any Help please.

Thanks Bill- love the MXT

Does the detector actually work? I mean did you find anyting any beeps ???

FIRST what do your batteries read? Mine and alot of others MXT's get really unstable when the batteries are less than 10 volts.

When I set my Ground Balance, It is common for the screen to show hotrocks just because your pumping the coil in one spot and some how it simulates a hotrock signal. It does not always do that but it is VERY common as I have dimenstrated that for people to show what "hotrock" looks like on the screen. I said "Theres no hotrocks here but look at this....".

Remember to switch your TRAC to LOCK after setting the GB and re-ground balance every 15 min or so depending on how far you travel from the last spot you balanced it. All you do is touch the GROUND GRAB button on your MXT PRO.

About your second issue about VDI's showing -40 while hunting.... Your screen will always show EVERYTHING. If your scanning over an iron target at -40, it shows it on the screen even though your sound is discriminating it out. Your detector always see's all targets, thats why setting the disc a bit high makes it hard for it to see good targets in alot of trash because your forcing it to shut its mouth about the trash but still tell you out loud that a good target is there too. It's a bit of a contradiction, "be quiet!" and "hey, tell me about that good target!" at the same time.

That said, hunt with the disc set low enough that it sounds off on a bit of junk but not so much that your pulling your hair out. You have the PRO version which is great because you will quickly recognize the sound difference between pull tabs and pennies for example. You don't even have to look at the screen until you HEAR a good tone. But the screen will always be showing all types of junk as you hunt, just kinda ignore it unless your freestyling and looking for a homestead or something. Then it come in real handy to know where the IRON junk is because your getting real close to a good spot.

I figured it out. In the Ground position pumped the coil but also held the ground grab it smoothed out funny i didn't see that in the manual or was reading it didn't understand it but it worked. Also i owned a whites eagle yr's ago. Got back into after i retired last yr. The past yr i had a gold bug pro different sounds VDI just have to keep swing & digging love this hobby found the biggest pull tab, the one you can wear as a ring. believe it i was happy.

Thanks everyone for the help.

I don't think you should be in "Ground" or "Salt" either one and hold the "GRAB" button while pumping. Only when in "LOCK" should you hold the "Grab" while pumping is how I read the manul to say...

You Are Correct....Myself like to pinpoint a spot that see's nothing at 12"..swtch in ground position recheck my spot in pin point at 12" then about 2-3 pumps
all is smooth and lock trac then go to hunting. Hope this helps:detecting:
