Found this yesterday in an area with colonial and civil war relics.....it has a ball that appears would have been attached to a leather piece or something similar. it's roughly the size of a nickel.

thanks for looking!
 
I'm with Rusty on this one.............all I can make out is a general silhouette. Try posting some bigger pics.
