New guy here,
I did some metal detecting on my farm that is on the route of Lee's Retreat to Appomattox, Virginia. I found the remains of two shotgun casings, what appears to be a bullet, and a small piece of metal with what appears to be a gunpowder core - The quarter in each of the pictures is for scale. I was able to identify the shotgun casings as part of the Remington-UMC New Club series. However, I wasn't able to figure out what the bullet (?) and other piece was. The calipers put the bullet diameter at 0.5" while the mystery piece has a bottom diameter of 0.5", is 1.75" tall, and has a maximum middle diameter of about 1.25". I researched some Civil War munitions but wasn't able to find anything similar - For all I know it could be a doorknob.
Any and all help is appreciated - Thanks for your time
