NEED help Identifying button, PLEASE

I am having a hard time exactly identifying a button (no back) that I found 2 summers ago. A friend that does a little relic hunting said it might be civil war related but wasn't positive. It has 13 stars surrounding the Eagle and canon balls under its talons. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Rick

PS: It was located in Knoxville, TN
 
Nice find. I have a same identical button with the rope border and lined; found in a CW area and have been told its a CS variant Navy issue but never have been able to positively ID it.
