Need help ground balancing Bandido II u-max

Prospector

New member
I recently purchased a used Bandido II U-max and need some help. It says in the manual to start with the ground balance knob at the twelve oclock position and then turn it 5 rounds to the left and 2 to the right. Then adjust from there. I have done this and it appears to work fine. My question is this. If the unit is used how do I know how many rounds it has been turned already, or does that matter? Is there a point where the knob will quit turning if I keep rotating it, or does it turn in either direction continually so that all that matters is that your starting point is the twelve oclock position? It also says to ground balance in auto tune. After it is balanced do I keep it in auto tune or switch to normal, or does that matter? Thanks!

It's a 3 and 3/4 turn potentiometer. If you turn it one way that many times, you are at one end of the scale,. Turning it 3 and 3/4 turns the other way takes you right at the other end of the scale. Once you reach the end of either side, you can keep turning, but it stays at that one spot at the end of the scale. Kind of like some radios. You can reach the end and keep turning, but the dial only goes so far. The method they try to start you at is in the center of the 3 and 3/4 scale. Since you don't know a starting point, they are telling you to go way far in one direction, making sure you're at the end, and coming back 2 turns, placing you close to half way.

You could turn forever, and not hurt anything. It works similar to a safe tumbler.

Thanks a lot, that really helps. I was hoping I had not done anything that would hurt the detector. It also says to ground balance in auto tune. Do I leave it in auto tune after balancing or turn it to normal, or does it matter? Thanks again!
