First off we are having even more local flooding which means no detecting. Dang it! So I'm fooling around with my coin collection as a fix. I just bought a big box of coins and this was in it. Canadian 1976 $5.00 coin. Exact size of a US silver dollar. It's sterling silver. Has just under 3/4 of an ounce of silver. Lucky find for the type of coins I had purchased and the low price I paid!!!! Since it is in such poor condition (photos are about the exact color) I was wondering if they circulated? Or was mine just mistreated? Anybody old enough to remember 1976 ever see one in circulation up there?

1976 Silver Marathon Silver Commemorative Montreal Olympics Round is what you got. It was never in circulation, and was produced ans sold by the Canadian mint to save $$$ for future Olympic happenings in Canada. In uncirculatated condition, they are selling for $35.00+. Yours should be be worth slightly under $23.94 USD, as the calculation was based on 100% silver, and yours is 0.925. A great piece of Olympic history and worth much more then it's $5.00 face value.

Type: Montreal Olympic Commemorative Diameter: 38 mm
Metal: 925 Sterling Silver - 92.5% - Solid
Weight: 24.33 grams Year: 1975
Country: Canada Features: Marathon runner
Denomination: 5 Dollars Series: Series 4 - Coin Number 14
Mint: Royal Canadian Mint

Considering that it was a non-circulated coin from an Olympic set, that is an amazing find. Wonder who the kid was who got into Daddy's coin collection then proceeded to lose or spend it? Wonder if Daddy even knows it's gone? We often find Olympic tokens issued by the oil companies in coin boxes at local coin shows but that is a first that I have not seen before in that condition. Congrats on a very nice find.
