i have just bought a second hand sunray dti 11 meter ,for my gt but the cable is only arond 600mm long ,i always hipmount my box so i am after a extension cable.anybody know where i can get one in the uk or will a different type do ?.also what is this meter like ?. thanks guys.

I have been looking for something similar, for my sovereign elite. I do not use a meter, but do not want to strain the coil cable and plug when I hipmount the control box. So I have been looking for an extension cable to run from the coil cable to the control box, with the strain being taken by both ends of the extension.

From what I have found out, the 6 pin plug used by Minelab, is the same as the 6 pin microphone plug used with CB radios. I have found the following cable, but am not sure if it will work.

It looks promising, and is quite inexpensive.

Hello Fellows; For the information on the Microphone plugs used on the coils ;
They are the same if they are able to screw together; A factory extension for a microphone most likely would work . it would have more wires than Minelab uses but I dont know if that would hurt anything or not; On the worst case you could nip or extact the pins on the unneeded wires so they wont contact. Someone that has been inside the brain box should be able to answer this. I do know mine only use four of the six wires.
Good Luck

i have had a look at the wires on the 6 pin plug that comes from the meter and it uses 5 of the 6 pins.(the 5 around the outside ,the sixth one in the center is not connected ).so if i dissconnect the center pin it should work.

I am assuming that the extension cable is connected 1-1, 2-2 etc, using all six pins. If some of the pins are not used by minelab, the extra connections within the extension will make no difference. I have seen some pictures of the inside of the sovereign from a modification page and the centre pin is bridged with one of the outer pins, again this would not make any difference.

I have just ordered one of these leads, and will report back when it arrives.

Quick Update

The extension cable that I ordered has arrived, and I have tried it on my Elite. It works perfectly, without any further modifications.

Bob, which connector did you get? This might be useful when hip mounting and using the meter mounted on the rod. Thanks!

stock minelab meters come with a long enough cable to hipmount with meter on the rod, if its to short its been shortened by someone.

Thanks Neil. I don't have my meter yet but I usually run the coil cable from the top through and under my belt for strain relief which takes up a fair amount of cable.

Hi Crazyman

I bought the cable from the link I posted earlier

http://www.rocketradio.co.uk/6-pin-microphone-extension-lead-1230-p.asp

The cable has the 6 pin screwed connector, male to female. It is extremely well made, with good cable clamps at each end.

Kind Regards Tarot (Bob)
