Need help choosing - CoinStrike or a CZ type

jabbo

Would like to have a detector that gives best target ID on deeper coins in old parks. Lots of square nails and other iron stuff present. Soft, moderate mineralized soil.

Mainly its personal preference. The slow sweep CZ's vs the moderately fast sweep of the Coinstrike. If you can handle the fast audio that relays tons of signals then the C$ might be what you want. The CZ's are a much "smoother ride" audio wise.

In really nasty iron and heavy modern trash I would pick the Coinstrike. If there are no more than say 3-5 iron hits per sweep then go with the CZ and get the 10.5" coil to go along with it.

Tom

Jackpine put it very well, personally I would go with the CZ, bit more of a learning curve on the Coinstrike from what I've heard. The CZ-3D with the standard 8" coil or the 5" coil sounds like the perfect detector for the conditions you've described.

Coinstrike has a learning curve but is faster, noisier, gives more info and not as easily masked not as deep and major problem it calls round rusty bottle caps a coin
On the other hand a CZ is user friendly is quieter easily masked by iron and calls those deep rusty nails a coin..
Everyone knows I am a CZ junky but under your circumstances a Coinstrike may be the correct unit..
With time in the field we can learn to but not eliminate but surely cut down the odds of both rusty bottle caps and deep rusty nails so good luck in your decision..

Reading this forum, everybody seems to love the CZ-70. I found a nice CZ-7a Pro with 8 and 5 inch coils and chest harness. Should have it in about 10 days. Does Pro mean anything? Thanks guys for your help.

CZ70 should be called CZ70 pro.....CZ7A pro came out first and the CZ70 pro followed both are deep and stable units the big change was the 70 had the square tab meter facet changed to relic and given a different in between tone( nasa Tom probably was involved in this change) Also I believe they changed sens. parameters as I have used both and tough to get a 70 higher than 4 while the 7A you may be able to get to 6 or 8 but never found an area where Ican get it to 10 (max) but even at 4.. 70 is as deep as the 7A.
May sound like greek to you until you get one in your hands and when you receive the CZ7A pro if possible try to run it at 6 or 8 if possible if your ground mineralization allows you to while having a stable unit and start out with sens at 8 or 10 when ground balancing. Actually deptwise, stability wise and for that matter cosmetic wise they look the same except for the changed meter facet in the 70 which has an in between tone..Jabbo good luck with your CZ7A pro and if you have any problems drop me a line as always will help a CZ owner out of course this is open to all forum members.....Where the pro comes into play Fisher made a rod mount only CZ7A and when they updated it to a hipmount they called it a pro.

Have a CZ-20 for the beach. Had a 1265x back in the 90's. Both are great machines. Was out of metal detecting for 15 years, then got back in to do some jewelry hunting using Tesoros. About 5 months ago I sold the gold jewelry found for $2100. Now I want another toy and try my hand for deep coins. Jabbo

Received the CZ7a today. Did some air tests using the 8 inch coil. This machine is sensitive. Air tests a quarter at 10 inches with a consistant high tone and a dime at 9 inches, sensitivity at 4. At 4 - 5 inches it sounds off very solidly on a girls gold chain bracelet, I thought for sure it wouldn't see it at all because the CZ20 can't with the 10.5 inch coil. Also came with a 5 inch (almost 5 inches) coil. Gonna start learning to use it tomorrow at a large park nearby. Jabbo

Jabbo, congrats on your new CZ-7a. I bought a CZ-7a pro years ago when they first came out. They are very good deepseeking detectors and built solid. I used to hunt old ghost towns in Nevada with mine and the only thing I didn't like was I dug a lot of iron with it. I believe once you take the time to learn it you will love it, I have always been sorry that I sold mine.

Digging iron is a pain. Been using the Cortes, I dig some iron with it but I need a deeper machine for any older coins still in this ancient park. Deeper rusty nails just 1 inch long - the Cortes tells me it's a silver coin. Will probably dig more iron with the CZ7a, hope to find silver .

Coinstrike is very good, and great in trash.A little learning curve for newbes but once learned you will do as good as any dig detector. The cz-3d would be a better choice due to you will find everything you would with the c$ but its deeper, and easier to use,and setup. The C$ uses one khz i think around 7.5 and the 3d uses 2 khz 5 and 15 for high conductor and low conductor targets. From past history the coinstrike numbers will bounce around a little, and the 3d is more stable with its tid. Both are great detectors. Both will find and perform the same or better than the new digital detectors out on the market today.

Jabbo...you are going to LOVE the small coil. It can get the deep silver, and can sniff out coins in between junk very well. And it pin points dead on.

Used the 7a three times now. Found a 5 wheaties and a Rev war musket ball, all at 5 - 6 inches, no silver yet. I think I figured it out now, mostly. Can run it at Sens 6 - 8. Still testing the volume setting. I like vol 4 for the feature, but maybe won't hear deep coins, have Killer B phones. At vol 4, could the sound be so quiet on a deeper coin that I wouldn't hear it?. A dozen times, dug down to 9 inches for deep iffy signals, found nothing, but still getting a signal, could be a nail there. Jabbo
