Need help choosing a new battery pack

Mosley

New member
I have had a Minelab E-trac for a number of years. I have noticed the battery pack is no longer holding a charge very long. I need a new battery pack, but which one?
I have heard good things about the RNB battery pack. they have the ML-3100 and ML-2900. If RNB is the way to go, which RNB pack is best suited for the E-trac.

ML-3100 and ML-2900 -- Either one will be just fine, they are the best battery for the E-Trac by far.

I have the 3100 for my E-Trac. They are excellent batteries.

I agree with everyone!
The RNB Battery is probably the best purchase you will ever make for your etrac!

I had the same problem years ago. I ended up using low self-discharge NiMH batteries in one of the fill-your-own alkaline packs that came with the machine. I've since bought another pack and filled it. The key is the low self-discharge cell; several companies make and sell them, usually at less than $2/per cell, so times 8 is $16, plus whatever the alkaline pack costs.

The low self-discharge cells typically have a lesser Amp hour rating than the regular cells, but will hold 95% or greater of their charge over a year. I'm not sure how many detecting hours I get between charges but guessing it is 20-30. My old pack might have done that much when new but if you left it in the car for a week or two it would be flat.

Probably not as much total detecting time as the lithion ion packs but at a fraction of the cost. With two packs I've gone on month long road trips with multiple detecting days and never had to recharge.

I have the 3100. I hear it is not affected by the cold as much as the 2900. I got it over the summer so I have not had a chance to test it in the cold yet. I can say It lasts for ever!

I love my RNB battery! It is nice being able to go out without having to carry my backup AA battery pack.
