I am looking to purchase a new detector for beach. I do all my hunting at Dewey beach DE only.
in the past years I have had a garrett ace 250, minelab souvergin gt, minelab etrac, and currently using a family members Whites prizim (horrible for beach)

any suggestions

If you just want to hunt in the dry and wet sand but never get in the water, there are a multitude of good choices and I wont jump into that briar patch, but if you are looking for a everywhere machine, I think the Excalibur is at the top of the list.

You've used some fair dry sand units. With the right coil an etrac is pretty good even in wet sand, just stay dry above the mid-line. Saltwater and wet really call for multifrequency or PI to be effective and PI means limited to no disc. A CZ or Excal seem to be the top choice of those who know. Some do pretty well with PIs, but it has a longer learning curve and lots of trash digging.
2 cents for free!

Most in that area use the CZ21/20 or the Excalibur, either a good choice. Stay away from the buying a PI's for that area....

Don't forget the sea hunter mk2, its a beast of a machine,hank.....deep!

Here we go again. I hunt the DE,MD,VA,and both Carolina beaches with a Tesoro sand shark. I find just as much or more as my buddies with VLF machines. Yeah i dig more but sometimes that's not a bad thing. What ever machine you pick, learn the machine well. Look at how much you want to spend, if your hunting dry or wet sand or the surf in the water. Make up your own mind on what you want.I'm not saying to buy a sand shark, it worked for me, maybe not for you.Dry sand you can use any VLF MD.Don't rely on what others like. Read forums, reviews on the MD's you like. Remember opinions are as common as:you know what, even mine. Research, research.

berryman,
Quit giving away our secrets. If everyone used one, there would be nothing left for us. We'd be lucky to find eight coins in a day.

I would say the Sovereign GT
is one of the best beach machines. Just don't get in the water with it.

My only problem with Minelab are the shorts the machines get. I have two excals and both have to be sent in for repair. One was just bought this summer.. and the other one was repaired last year and now it has a short somewhere else. That gets expensive. My Sovereign Elite is the only one I have up and running right now it it seems to have a slight short starting on the coil wire. I am thinking about trading one for a fisher CZ20 or 21 because of duribility..

I have done great over the years with my Garrett GTA-1000 for the dry beach but this year i bit the bullet and bought a Seahunter Mark II I have only had it out three times for short times and i like it but I'm still in the learning mode with the Seahunter I cant wait til spring as I have at least three spots where i use my boat where on any given weekend where at least 30 boats are anchored and people are swimming on island beaches in the bay.

Don't forget to check out the Tesoro Sand Shark, very good machine, balances out nicely and is extremely deep. For the money you can't beat it.

I have an Excalibur and a CZ21 both are great machines. I do believe the Excalibur is a better machine, however the CZ21 is a close second and built like a tank.
