Need Help Badly with my MXT

:detecting:Hi Everyone!!

I finally got my metal detector and I'm too happy. I just have one small question. How do you make it work properly? I have read the book 6 times and my brother-in-law read it 2 times and we both got different ways to set the MD. We were on a salt beach in Florida and I read the manual and you wouldn't believe the hot rocks found. I finally located something different when my detector went off. It first said buckle (A First), then it said platinum...I checked the depth on it and it was 12 inches. I promise, I dug a hole the size of medium pizza, and the depth was just under 2 feet. What did I find? Sea Shells and nothing but sea shells. I just took it outside, putting it on the correct settings by the book, and every time it went off, it always said 12 inches deep. The law of averages say that something has to be either higher or lower than 12 inches. If nothing more than to break the monotony. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thank you

Very obvious you are doing something wrong or your machine is not working properly. Try setting a few coins on the ground in factory set programs and check readings. Next bury a few different coins penny/nickel/dime about an inch (so you can find them again:cool:) and check your readings. I am sure you will get a couple good responses here also.

I also have an MXT and have not had great results at the beach. I've used the stock coil. I found this coil to be a bit unstable in salty areas. I recently bought the 6x10DD coil which is supposed to be better on beach (have not tested it yet).

Were you using the detector in salt mode? Was your gain set at max? Have you used the detector in any other areas (i.e. park) and has it performed the same? If the answer is yes then you may have a defective unit. Otherwise lower your gain to 8 or 9. Make sure that the ground tracking is set to salt mode.

Good luck!
HH.
