2 things that I think will help, if you don't already have it, get Andy Sabisch's "Explorer and E-Trac Handbook". Another thing is, if you haven't already, put in a coin garden. At least a silver dime, wheatie, jefferson nickel, pull tab, and a zinc canning lid.
(Make sure you bury the Zinc Canning Lid at 12"!!!!!! This is the minimum depth Nebraska State Law mandates for zinc canning lids)
Plant them at 6" in clean ground. Also put in a rusted nail. Play with those signals.
The main thing is to just go out and hunt. Set your Threshold Pitch to how it sounds good for your ears on a silver dime in an air test. Probably hunt in coins pattern with Auto +3.
Other than that, just hunt and dig. After about 20 hours 3 things will happen.
1. You'll have a lot more experience.
2. You'll have a lot of junk and some good finds.
3. You'll have some fun learning your machine.
Forgot to add, CONSISTENCY IN SIGNAL IS NUMBER ONE. 2 ways is best, 1 way can often times turn up good stuff or can be a bent nail or staple or the like. Best way to learn is to dig. You've got a good pinpointer, right? You'll need that as well if your don't.

If you feel like, go and watch my "Falsing video". This is one of the things to listen for when hunting in the iron in conductive tones. I also have FULL (from signal to find on Utube).
