Dear all,

I am sorry to bug you guys with this question, but I am having a very hard time adapting to my CTX. Ever since I purchased the machine, my finds have gone dramatically down, even clad. I know it is just me, and trying to know my machine, it must be, because I do trust I have a good machine.

Anyway, when I hunt, I go and look at hunt modes, like, beach, coins, silver, trashy park, etc.. I always leave it on coin mode, thinking I am going to find some coins. But I want to know more about the target seperation modes Ferrous-Coin, Ground-Coin, High Trash, Low Trash, etc.. How do I get into one of these?

Thank you all in advance.

Pick whatever program you whant to hunt in. Then press your Menu/Select button. In the program your hunting in select EDIT. That's where you can change the features whithin the search program you have selected. Such as; Ferrous/Coin, High/Trash. Also you can select DEEP ON, Fast ON, SEA WATER, etc.

Best advice I can give you on the CTX is to not use discrimination. I used to hunt discriminated in coin mode and I found some coins, but they were generally scratchy. I use ferrous coin now ( my soil isn't mineralized - if it is use ground coin). DO NOT DISCRIMINATE. most of silvers and deeper coins are masked by iron. I got my machine late last July and have over a thousand hours on it now. I have found 96 silvers so far, along with about 1500 pennies and tons of clad. It was a really steep learning curve as I had an AT Pro for 3 weeks and hated it. I had never detected before last year. The misconception with the ctx is that is fast. It's not. Not at all. In trash, slow down. I have a swing of about 4 seconds one way. The ctx allows you to cover the ground thoroughly. Not quickly.

I'm re hunting spots I thought I pounded last year and have 15 silvers from those same fields by slowing down. 5 others are from a place I call the nail yard and one from a farmers field.

You will get this machine in an epiphany moment. And then it's easy. Patience is a virtue. This a great forum, and the members will help you along

Now get out there and get dirty ;)

One of the best things i done when i got my CTX was go to Minlab site and print out the 67 page instruction manual. It does a good job of explaining the machine and functions.

I would certainly discriminate some. This will help with the falsing especially in high trash areas. I have tested many deep targets that I have found with an open screen, and threw on some discrimination and they picked up fine. The best way to do it is hunt with some discrimination, locate a target, then switch to an open screen (previous mode - user button) to get the target readout/ID number as it will be more accurate in an open screen. The iron chatter can actually be so overwhelming that you can miss good targets that way. The CTX IS quick and even quicker with fast on, but you should still go slow so that you can feel secure you have not overswung anything.

That's the great thing about this forum. Different opinions are always welcome!

I just choose not to and it works for me. Picked a 1872 fishscale out of the trash this morning!
