NEED fisher 1280 advice .....is 700 too much? ....it has lifetime warranty..

That is about what you will pay for the 1280-x at most dealers. IT
is a good machine especially if your going to use it in freshwater.
If you plan on using it around saltwater make sure you get the one with the 10.5" coil. The reason for this is because your going to have
to back off the sensitivity due to the saltwater interference. You
don't want to lose to much depth so, the 10.5" coil will help offset
that. I own one myself and I have had great luck with this machine but,
If you could afford to pay more buy the excaliber 1000. This machine
is the best water unit I have ever own. My finds have doubled thanks
it's ability to adapt to the changes(minerals)in the ground. The
1280-x can't do this and that is where the excaliber shines.

Matt, I bought a working used unit three years ago for $250 and it came with the fisher hard case. Hind sight says I got one heck of a deal, but I got it from a dealer, so I feel pretty good about it.

Not saying $700 is out of line, just that I think you could do better if you look around.

Best of luck either way!
