Need feedback on larger coils for my TDi?

I am considering a Goldstalker 12 x 18 mono or the UFO 12 x 24 mono coils for my Whites TDi. Just trying to justify the high cost? Why do these coils cost so damn much to start with? $454 plus shipping for the Goldstalker and $385 + for the UFO coil. Can I expect to hit ounce or larger nuggets and specimen pieces/gold pockets at 2-3 feet in moderate hot ground/limestone bedrock area? Will they give a whisper signal or a zip or what? What are the best headphones to be using? I have Killer Bees currently. Are there signal enhancers for my TDI like they have for the Minelabs? Will either of these 2 coils bolt right up to my TDI stem? Let me know if anybody has a used coil for 1/2 these prices, I am interested.
Ps, I had to send my TDI in for repairs after I accidentally dropped it in the field. They sent me back a brand new machine!! .Now I will have 4 battery packs to boot.
Thanks,

Tom

Bob,

I like that forum but I have the worst time tryin to login to it? It refuses to recognize my login name, email address, etc and I can never seem to get them garbled security code letters to work right. I was able to email Cougar Jim ,see if he can fix things up for me?

You can find a lightly used large coil good shape for about 60% less new cost. I'm in the process of testing my TDI with 16" Goldstalker but haven't gone hunting yet. I like the 12" TDI dual field coil and the Jimmy 10 x 5 response on the TDI. The Minelab monos sound much different I've tried 6" GoldStalker, 8" RM, 16" RM GoldStalker and Nugget Finder. You won't hear a zip sound that a flash back to the Goldmaster 2,3,4b.

Let me know how the 16 inch Goldstalker coil works out for you and what settings work best for using it on your TDi? Where can I find used coils at 60% off? Bob sold 2 of the big UFO coils for $100 each in Nov 2009 but I missed my chance.

I got me a waterproof Coiltek Platypus 6 x 10 elliptical coil to try out on my TDi after the snow melts,in Gold Creek, Indiana to hunt for placers deposits, black sand, and hopefully nuggets.THis coil has a 5 foot cable and appears to be heavily shielded. Hopefully it wil be long enogh for chest mounting? ____ told me that there is a 2 foot Minelab extension cable for about $60-70. Kind of an expensive bit of cable it seems?
Still looking for a used Goldstalker 12 x 18 mono coil for my TDI but don't want to spend more than about $250.

Go for a round coil, they go deeper than the elliptical ones do. Don't know about gold at 3 feet though unless it was the size of a rubbish bin, ounce bits at those depths though is stretching it on any machine. You can walk over gold with an elliptical coil that wont register and yet on a round you can have a no ifs or buts signal. Elliptical are good in the scrub but for depth, elip vs round not within a bulls roar!

To build me a 14 x 18 inch elliptical coil for now, price was cheap compared to the name brands. Of course I have no idea how well it will or won't work yet for gold nugget/specimen hunting, time will tell.
I can always have Lamar build me a 16-18 inch round coil and still have 2 big coils for less than the price of 1 name brand 18 inch coil for my TDi.
Civil War relics would be an option too as Lamar has pointed out.
Sure could use some warm weather, my aches and pains can't take this cold much longer.
