Need Excal Coil Change Info

John LA

New member
I find the 10" coil difficult to handle in the water. I'm trying to decide rather I should just put the 8" coil on or should I used waterproof connectors and use both coils. Is the 10" coil very much deeper in sand? Also would the 8" Toronado (Sovereign) work on the Excal? My problem is that I'm old and have back trouble among other health issues.

Well John, I use the 10" and Huntress uses the 8". She is more comfortable using the 8", because it is lighter and she hunts shallower than I do generally. If you do decide to swap coils, I would highly recommend that you have the factory do it for you and leave the unit hardwired. You are asking for trouble with the, "waterproof connectors", yeah right. They will leak, it's a bad idea. Ask Minelab if they will maintain your warranty with waterproof connectors. It ain't hapnin'. The Tornado sounds like a great idea and I will probably go that way, next coil change, but maintain 10". Good luck in your decision.
