I love my Ace w/sniper coil and now it's getting time for retirement and the latter part of my life. How much difference will I be able to notice between the Ace and the GTI 1500? I've heard everything from it being comparable to,say, a White's MXT to I would be just as happy with my Ace. Thanks.

i have a 250 and a 1500. i haven't used the 250 in approximately a year. i always think to myself that i should get the 250 out and use it. but the next thought that comes into my mind is that the 250 does not have the imaging feature and how nice it is to have and use that feature. that does not mean the 250 is not a good machine. i just like the imaging feature and that outweighs the fact that the 250 does not have it. the 1500 is a heavier machine. i am 55 and i have always been able to hunt as long as i have wanted to and lived to tell the tales. that is my two cents, for what it is worth. i do really like the 1500 though. you can get a sniper coil for the 1500 also, (non-imaging). i can honestly say i don't know which machine would be better without imaging, though.

The 1500 was designed for coinshooting and is about the best out there. The pinpointing is deadly. The imaging spoils you in short order. It's a fun machine to use and one can switch back and forth between the 250 and the 1500. I have all the Garretts and have field tested all of them that have come out in the past 15 years or so and the 1500 is my favorite. I lean towards the 250 a lot because it is light and I don't like heavy detectors. The 1500 weighs a little more than the 250 but is balanced so well that I don't notice the difference and I use the old coil which is also lighter than the Proformance coil. The two machines make a great pair and are all one really needs for all around hunting.

What I would suggest, is get the sniper coil and keep it on the ACE. Get the GTI 1500 or GTI 2500, and just use the stock or large coil. Some hunts demand both coils, small and large. Take both machines along and save yourself the time of switching coils.

I had a 1350 and a 1500 and several aces. I didn't notice any improvement in performance when it comes to hunting old farmfields. But that is just in my case. I used the big coil on the ace and it went very deep. I Still love the green machines but I prefer the ace.

I use the ACE250 with the sniper and the GTI1500
in larger areas ..i enjoy both and use them a lot..
In my 2nd yr opinion you cnat go wrong with the GTI
and the ACE will alwyas be usefulll

Just one Old Rangers opinion

Thanks, everyone. Eric, I think I'm gonna stick with the Ace for a while. And the sniper coil will always be on it. Went over an area yesterday that I had been over with supposedly "better" detector and found two stick pins, one,an eagle shaped pin, and the other a wreath-shaped one-but they were just gold plated. I thought this was just me and my new discovery of an accesory-but gosh it just keeps getting better every outing. Thanks again for everyone's time.
